Happy New Year!

Changes, changes, and more changes at the Finch!
Our dear Finch, Cora has moved to Africa. Monrovia, Liberia to be exact! I had no idea exactly where Liberia was and had to consult the atlas to find it. Cora is a teacher (and a Finch) and after an unsuccessful semester looking for new teaching jobs in Nashville she looked elsewhere. Elsewhere just happens to be a Third World country 36 hours by plane away! However, this is not Cora's first jaunt abroad to teach. When I first met her she was leaving for two years in the Peace Corp to teach in Kazakhstan (famous now for Borat). Well this time abroad she will have electricity and running water so really it is quite luxurious! We will miss her though!

But how does this relate to the Finch? Well I will be jumping over to meet her in Morocco or Budapest or Turkey and then we are hopping to Croatia for a wedding and some beach time! Of course I will shop along the way and bring treasures back to the Finch!

Well I am off to NYC Friday to scoop up the best for the Spring! Look back here soon for a sneak peek of all the goodness I can find!

We heart Jan Michaels

We've had requests for more info about Jan Michael's fabulous jewelry, so here is a pic of some of her earrings! The top left hoops are made of agate- exquisite! The lower floral earrings are green adventurine. The two pairs with crescent- shaped drop chains are black onyx and amazonite. The metal is brass, which gives them a lovely "vintage-y " feel, and is very good quality. We can't wait to see what she comes out with this spring!

Where did the time go?

Wow, time has dashed past me!
We had a lovely bit of press in Lucky magazine featuring an even lovelier Jan Michaels ring.

If you haven't become familiar with Jan's jewelry you really should ask a Finch about it. We all adore the stuff! Now I have been working hard at this whole retail gig for more than a big ole decade now. Needless to say I have a lot of jewelry! So much that I have to curb myself now for fear that my husband will start to become a little peeved. Oh but that resolve just weakens and melts away every time I see Jan and what she has been up to in her time off. The rings are fabulous but the earrings just sing to me! I admit to having several pairs in more than one stone color. I think the joy of her jewelry is every piece is handmade by lovely ladies in San Francisco (go USA?) and dreamed up in that beauiful creative head of Jan's.

So Happy Holidays everyone! Come visit!

It's Buddha, Baby!

I just love this little guy. There is definitely something very odd about a Buddha Christmas tree ornament though. Nonetheless he makes me smile! We have almost finished getting out all of the holiday decorations and merchandise. It is kind of like opening presents to see all of the stuff we boxed up back in August. We receive all of coats and Christmas goodies in the heat of the summer when we could care less about them. Then as soon as it gets a little chilly we can't wait to pile all the winter goodness into the store.

Hope to see you all soon. Shop early, shop hard! Only 25 shopping days left!

So if you didn't know...

Well we at the Finch are very used to brushes with fame. We have quite a sweet list of fancy shoppers and also the ever growing list of famous encounters on the streets of NYC (Natalie Portman on the 9 Train anyone? Juliana Moore and kids buying bread? Martin Short on the phone? Tommy Hilfiger buying tennis shoes? Paris Hilton about to mow down pedestrians on 5th Ave? Jonathon Adler selling us figurines?). But I am very, truly excited by this not quite Finchy encounter.

Now you may not know but I love to cook. I am the go ot person for 200 cupcakes for an event or tamales for 10. I was at one time enthralled with Martha Stewart back in the pre-penal days (that means jail people, get your mind out of the adult bookstore). But I have since kind of wafted away from her in favor of REAL people who do amazing things without the staff of hundreds. Recently our baby Finch Juilana's mom, Anna Maria was on the Martha show and boy are we proud!

That reminds me you guys really should meet the Finches. We have quite an interesting group of women here. Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to two of the youngest Finches....
First off, Kali Luna Lucy Lague is the senior baby Finch. Kali began working for the Finch when she was a mere 14 years old. We didn't break any Labor laws! Kali is amazing! She is sophisticated, interesting, smart, loving and way more fashionable than I have ever been! Kali will be leaving us next Fall (sigh, tear) for, fingers crossed, NYC and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is busily working on her portfolio and it is looking great! Kali also holds the honor of being a champion figure skater and an honor roll student at Hillsboro High. As a side note she can kick some major butt with a hula hoop.
Next the true baby Finch, Juliana mentioned above is a mere 15 (once again those crazy Labor laws). I have known Juliana for about 10 years. Her mama, Anna Maria had a great clothing line Handmaiden that I bought while working at another store. Well Anna Maria has since moved on to other endeavours (and 4 more children!) but I am so pleased to have her beautiful Juliana at the Finch. Juliana is the cutest thing you have ever seen. Legs to her chin and the sweetest disposition! I would love to use her ion our advertising but feel creepy about having men look at her in any way other than a fatherly sort. Oh the maternal feelings surge... Juliana is also a Hillsboro student who is at the moment hating Chemistry.

So there are two Finches down, 9 more or so to go!

Tweet, Tweet Little Sweet

Can you believe how amazing these earrings are? You know we admittedly have a little bird fixation but even so we think everyone will love these lovelies. By Lisa Cimino these little hoops are hand cast of solid sterling silver. Tweet Tweet!

Do you ever have one of those days?

Well we have received so much freight (otherwise known as good stuff everyone loves) in the past week that we can't even get to our back door. Sorry Fire Marshall. I just had to share this ridiculous look at what it is like behind the scenes at the Finch. Our storage room is also our lunch room, freight unpacking and pricing area and our art studio for creating new displays. Looks fun doesn't it?

Oh the Weather Outside.....

Oh the weather outside may be frightful but we have you covered!

Check out what we have new this week!!!
Oh and wouldn't you be cute and cozy in this....

Or maybe you should wait for the new colors of Tulle coats to arrive in the next two weeks?

Well, anyway we are excited to have a change of wardrobe.

We just got word that our favorite wardrobe guru Lizzie was on the Today Show last Thursday. Many of you may remember Lizzie from her stay here at the nest. The lovely songbird is now in the Big Apple spreadin' her Southern charm to all those who have the cash and class to shop at the SoHo Max Azria boutique.

Miss you Dizzy Lizzie!

Are you gonna love this!

While the color here seems to be wonky.....

This is an amazing necklace! Cast from a real and true humminbird skull. Oh so delicate....

Building a New Finch

Sarah and I spent the day building away making a better Finch. Because you know what is just around the corner! Look for our new little friends arriving around the nests soon!

Whole New World

Here at the Finch we are not known for our tech skills. Back in 2000 we kicked our cash register out the back door after two weeks of use. The thing just had too many buttons! We are definitely the pen and paper set as you know if you have ever been to our store.

But now we realize that the world is a much bigger place than little ole Nashville and we should spread our wings! We have friends and former Finches all over the place that we want to keep in touch with and let them know what is happening at the nest. Plus all of our fabulous customers really should be able to see all the new goodies we keep finding and filling the nest with daily (or at least weekly!). We have such a hard time keeping the website up to date (definitely beyond our tech skills) but this is as easy and fun as email!

So check back here for our favorite products, new goodies and general info about what is happening at the Finch!
