Girls Just Want to Have Fun

It's our Fire Finch tradition to have a Christmas Party after the hectic-ness of December has passed. So hear we are, gathered mid- January for a little post Christmas fun. I love this group shot! From left to right in the front row is April, Sarah, Megan, Katie W, and Juliana. Left to right on the back row is our illustrious leader, Susan, Channing, and Katie G.

Secret Santa Katie W gave Sarah a much welcomed set of wine glasses and a bottle of ...sparkling grape juice?
Katie G gets a dove gray velvety flower headband- vintage glamour- style!
Channing peeks into her gift; I think she's impressed by the fancy packaging.
Channing, Katie G, and Megan put on their happy faces. Happy new year from all of us at Fire Finch!

New York New York

Oh, Times Square....I really do try to avoid Times Square with all of the crowds, the noise and the general flash of it all but I somehow found myself trekking across 42nd St and look! It is pretty cool to look up and see that tall column of flashy lights. Come to think of it, I have never taken this obligatory tourist photo of Times Square. Maybe I feel like I am marking myself as a tourist if I whip out the camera in this very tourist oriented neighborhood when I usually try so hard to just blend in with the cool crowd of die hard New Yorkers. Oh well......

So New York was a whirlwind of buying and visiting friends. I saw lovely Lizzie who has been in the city for almost 6 months now! We had a great time catching up and eating yummy food. And of course I shopped! Girls get ready for very pretty ethnic inspired dresses and lots of bangle bracelets! The trends are definitely headed the oh so casual ethnic direction.

Next month I head back for the Gift show to search out the cooolest of the cool that I can find! But by the end of that trip I am sure I will feel like the picture below and be ready to be back in good ole Nashville!

Happy New Year!

Changes, changes, and more changes at the Finch!
Our dear Finch, Cora has moved to Africa. Monrovia, Liberia to be exact! I had no idea exactly where Liberia was and had to consult the atlas to find it. Cora is a teacher (and a Finch) and after an unsuccessful semester looking for new teaching jobs in Nashville she looked elsewhere. Elsewhere just happens to be a Third World country 36 hours by plane away! However, this is not Cora's first jaunt abroad to teach. When I first met her she was leaving for two years in the Peace Corp to teach in Kazakhstan (famous now for Borat). Well this time abroad she will have electricity and running water so really it is quite luxurious! We will miss her though!

But how does this relate to the Finch? Well I will be jumping over to meet her in Morocco or Budapest or Turkey and then we are hopping to Croatia for a wedding and some beach time! Of course I will shop along the way and bring treasures back to the Finch!

Well I am off to NYC Friday to scoop up the best for the Spring! Look back here soon for a sneak peek of all the goodness I can find!

So if you didn't know...

Well we at the Finch are very used to brushes with fame. We have quite a sweet list of fancy shoppers and also the ever growing list of famous encounters on the streets of NYC (Natalie Portman on the 9 Train anyone? Juliana Moore and kids buying bread? Martin Short on the phone? Tommy Hilfiger buying tennis shoes? Paris Hilton about to mow down pedestrians on 5th Ave? Jonathon Adler selling us figurines?). But I am very, truly excited by this not quite Finchy encounter.

Now you may not know but I love to cook. I am the go ot person for 200 cupcakes for an event or tamales for 10. I was at one time enthralled with Martha Stewart back in the pre-penal days (that means jail people, get your mind out of the adult bookstore). But I have since kind of wafted away from her in favor of REAL people who do amazing things without the staff of hundreds. Recently our baby Finch Juilana's mom, Anna Maria was on the Martha show and boy are we proud!

That reminds me you guys really should meet the Finches. We have quite an interesting group of women here. Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to two of the youngest Finches....
First off, Kali Luna Lucy Lague is the senior baby Finch. Kali began working for the Finch when she was a mere 14 years old. We didn't break any Labor laws! Kali is amazing! She is sophisticated, interesting, smart, loving and way more fashionable than I have ever been! Kali will be leaving us next Fall (sigh, tear) for, fingers crossed, NYC and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is busily working on her portfolio and it is looking great! Kali also holds the honor of being a champion figure skater and an honor roll student at Hillsboro High. As a side note she can kick some major butt with a hula hoop.
Next the true baby Finch, Juliana mentioned above is a mere 15 (once again those crazy Labor laws). I have known Juliana for about 10 years. Her mama, Anna Maria had a great clothing line Handmaiden that I bought while working at another store. Well Anna Maria has since moved on to other endeavours (and 4 more children!) but I am so pleased to have her beautiful Juliana at the Finch. Juliana is the cutest thing you have ever seen. Legs to her chin and the sweetest disposition! I would love to use her ion our advertising but feel creepy about having men look at her in any way other than a fatherly sort. Oh the maternal feelings surge... Juliana is also a Hillsboro student who is at the moment hating Chemistry.

So there are two Finches down, 9 more or so to go!

Oh the Weather Outside.....

Oh the weather outside may be frightful but we have you covered!

Check out what we have new this week!!!
Oh and wouldn't you be cute and cozy in this....

Or maybe you should wait for the new colors of Tulle coats to arrive in the next two weeks?

Well, anyway we are excited to have a change of wardrobe.

We just got word that our favorite wardrobe guru Lizzie was on the Today Show last Thursday. Many of you may remember Lizzie from her stay here at the nest. The lovely songbird is now in the Big Apple spreadin' her Southern charm to all those who have the cash and class to shop at the SoHo Max Azria boutique.

Miss you Dizzy Lizzie!
